You map out the week with such care, and then life happens—a sudden detour, a difficult conversation, an unexpected deadline that scatters your well-laid plans.
It is exhausting to hold the tension between what we hope to accomplish and what actually unfolds. We want to be the authors of our own stories, to feel that if we just plan well enough, we can control the outcome. But the quiet truth of Proverbs is a gentle release: "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Sometimes, the most faithful thing we can do is make our plans, do our diligent work, and then open our hands, allowing God to redirect our steps in ways we cannot yet see.
This is not a promise of an easy path, but a promise of a settled heart. It is an invitation to trade our anxiety for trust, to believe that the God who sees the whole road can be trusted with the next step.
Gracious God, you know the weight of the decisions before me and the noise in my mind. I confess that I often cling too tightly to my own itinerary. Grant me the wisdom to plan with intention, but the humility to hold those plans loosely. Quiet my restless heart with the peace that comes from knowing you are already in my tomorrow. Establish my steps, Lord, and give me the courage to follow where you lead, trusting that your way is better than my own. Amen.
Go into this week with your plans in hand and your heart open. May you find freedom in the truth that you are not carrying the weight of the future alone. Amen. 🙏
